On December 10th, 20 students from New Zealand took the high-speed train to the Kaili College in Southeast Guizhou and the Taijiang National Middle School to start the “New Sinology Exchange” activity after completing the Chinese Study Week at Fudan University in Shanghai.

The winter in Guizhou is cold, but New Zealand students can’t restrain their inner excitement. They ignore the cold and the fatigue of the journey. The high-speed rail will come to Kaili College without stopping.

In order to meet New Zealand students from afar, Kelly College leaders and teachers and student representatives have already waited in the school hall. Yao Zaiyu, Dean of the Confucius Institute in Auckland, also made a special trip to fly from Auckland to participate in this exchange. The New Zealand Chinese Education Foundation presented the ‘Safety Buckle’ souvenir to Dean Zhou Danping of Kaili International Education College.

At Carey College, New Zealand students were warmly welcomed. After interacting with some of the university students, New Zealand students also visited and learned the traditional and unique tie dyeing process and weaving process in China. New Zealand students curiously open their eyes to Chinese students, and some students also personally operate. They deeply marvel at the craftsmanship of Chinese folk traditions!

The next day, New Zealand students traveled to the Taichung National Middle School, where the New Zealand Chinese Education Foundation will support poor students. In the early winter, rain and snow started in Guizhou, and the temperature was colder than in previous years, but this did not reduce the enthusiasm of these New Zealand students.

The event first met at the conference room on the third floor of Taijiang Minzhong. At the meeting, President Chen Liqun of Taijiang Minzhong delivered a speech and welcomed New Zealand students from afar. I hope that through this event, they will enhance mutual understanding between the students of the two countries and promote cultural exchanges between the two countries. The Taiwanese students of the New Zealand Chinese Education Foundation, Xiong Wenmin and Ma Tianxiang, respectively, spoke in Chinese and English. The New Zealand middle school winter camp student Hunter Peden also made a speech and won the applause of the venue. Yang Hao, deputy director of the United Front Work Department of Taijiang County Committee, and Wang Angang, deputy director of the Education and Technology Bureau of Taijiang County attended the meeting.

After the meeting, New Zealand teachers and students visited the Taijiang Minzhong School History Exhibition Room and learned to write calligraphy and jumping wood. The students of the two countries also danced together against the inspiration, singing and introducing their own national geography and culture programs. The new middle school students laughed and laughed. This is the first time that Taijiang Minzhong has participated in this kind of exchange between Chinese and foreign students. The students in remote areas of China have communicated with foreign students for the first time, which is a long-term development for the students in the country. Opportunities for vision, communication with peers in different countries, and the ability to understand each other’s language, which also allows New Zealand students who are learning Chinese to learn more about the learning life of Taijiang middle school students, and to communicate with such simple and enthusiastic students. Friends, New Zealand students have said that this will be the most memorable friendship in their lives.

On leaving the Taijiang Middle School, and the new middle school students shed tears. New Zealand students will also travel to Xijiang Miao Village in Guizhou to experience the rich and varied ethnic minority culture of Guizhou, visit the National Big Data Center in Guiyang, and the unique natural landscape formed by Guizhou’s unique karst landforms.

The students said that through the “New China Sinology Exchange” activities, the international vision of the students of the two countries was broadened, and the diversified development of culture was promoted, which deepened the friendship and understanding between Chinese and foreign students.
